Rinya Nakamura, 28, of Saitama, Japan was one of the “UFC 298” winners. He is currently in Anaheim, California, United States where he earned his third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 298” was held at the Honda Center in Anaheim on February 17, 2024. The fifth bout was a bantamweight contest between Nakamura and Carlos Vera, 36, of Manabi, Ecuador.
Jonathan Romero was the referee of the fight. After three five-minute rounds, he raised the hand of Nakamura, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Losing to Nakamura downgraded Vera’s professional MMA record to 11 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, the Japanese MMA fighter now has 9 wins and 0 loss.
Aside from Japan, four other Asia-Pacific countries were represented at “UFC 298”. Nakamura was the only Japanese fighter on the card while Zhang Mingyang and Roman Kopylov solely represented China and Russia, respectively.
Also on the card were Australia’s Junio Tafa and Alexander Volkanovski and Georgia’s Ilia Topuria and Merab Dvalishvili. Topuria is also fighting out of Alicante, Spain.
Volkanovski defended the UFC Featherweight Championship title from Topuria.
