Hrafnhildur Haraldsdóttir, 20, of Reykjavik, Iceland finished second at Miss Earth 2024. This marks Iceland’s first placement in Miss Earth, which is based in Metro Manila, Philippines.
Born and raised in Reykjavik, Haraldsdóttir is Krummi Haraldsdottir‘s daughter. After graduating from A.T. Mahan High School in Keflavik, Iceland, she entered the Commercial College of Iceland in Reykjavik in 2020 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Miss Universe 2022
On August 24, 2022, Hrafnhildur represented East Reykjavik at Ungfrú Ísland 2022 and competed against 15 other candidates at Gamla Bíó in Reykjavik, Iceland. She won the title.
On January 14, 2023, Hrafnhildur represented Iceland at Miss Universe 2022 and competed against 83 other candidates at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. She was unplaced.
On August 16, 2023, Hrafnhildur went back to Gamla Bíó to crown her successor Ungfrú Ísland 2023 Lilja Sif Pétursdóttir. On November 18, 2023, the latter represented Iceland at Miss Universe 2023, competed against 83 other candidates at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda in San Salvador, El Salvador and was unplaced.
Miss Earth 2024
On July 3, 2024, Hrafnhildur was officially appointed Miss Earth Iceland 2024. On November 9, 2024, she represented Iceland at Miss Earth 2024 at the Okada Manila in Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Hrafnhildur competed against 75 other candidates including Jessica Lane, 21, of Australia, who won the title. As the first runner-up, the Icelandic beauty queen was crowned Miss Earth-Air 2024.
The respective second and third runners-up were Miss Earth-Water 2024 Bea Millan-Windorski, 21, of United States and Miss Earth-Fire 2024 Niva Antezana, 20, of Peru. After finishing in the Top 8, Jasmine Jorgensen, 19, of Cabo Verde, Tamara Aznar, 25, of the Dominican Republic, Bianca Caraballo, 22, of Puerto Rico and Ekaterina Romanova, 22, of Russia were named the runners-up.
Miss Earth Iceland
While Hrafnhildur is the fourth beauty queen to hold the Miss Earth Iceland title, she is the third Miss Earth candidate representing Iceland. Móeiður Svala Magnúsdóttir was appointed Miss Earth Iceland 2018 but she was not able to represent Iceland at Miss Earth 2018.
Katrín Dögg Sigurdardóttir and Dagbjört Rúriksdóttir represented Iceland in Miss Earth in 2007 and 2020, respectively. They were both unplaced.
Ungfrú Ísland 2002 Manuela Hardardottir was supposed to represent Iceland at Miss Universe 2003 but she withdrew from the competition two days before the coronation ceremony due to dehydration. In 2024, she became the Miss Earth Iceland national director.
