Cuban-Peruvian-American mixed martial artist Jorge J. Masvidal Jr. of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States was 18 when he earned his second HOOKnSHOOT victory on July 19, 2003. That day, he fought Brian Geraghty, then 23, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, USA at “Absolute Fighting Championships 4”.

Founded by Jeff Osborne in 1995, HOOKnSHOOT was based in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA. It held “AFC 4” at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida.

There were nine matches on the “AFC 4” card. The fourth match was a welterweight bout between Masvidal and Geraghty.

After three 5-minute rounds, the referee raised the hand of Masvidal. The fighter from Miami was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Losing to Masvidal downgraded Geraghty’s professional MMA record to 6 wins and 7 losses. The fighter from Pleasant Prairie made his professional MMA debut on August 23, 2000.

Masvidal was born in Miami to Jorge Masvidal Fernandez Sr., 47, and Maria Carmen Masvidal, 41. Jorge Sr. is Cuban while Maria is Peruvian.

Jorge Jr. is 5’11” tall. He grew up in Miami and he attended St. Brendan High School in Westchester, Miami-Dade County.

While in high school, Jorge Jr. competed in wrestling but he failed to stay eligible because of his grades. He made his professional MMA debut on May 24, 2003.

From 2007 to 2023, Jorge Jr. was a member of the American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Broward County. On November 12, 2024, he turned 40.
