“AFC 13”
Jorge J. Masvidal Jr. of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States and Paul Rodriguez of Orlando, Orange County, Florida headlined the HOOKnSHOOT event “Absolute Fighting Championships 13” on July 30, 2005. The former was 20 and the latter was 28.
Featuring eight MMA matches, “AFC 13” was held at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida. Marco Lopez served as the referee of the main event, a lightweight bout between Masvidal and Rodriguez.
Lopez stopped the fight after 2 minutes and 27 seconds in the first round. Rodriguez won via technical submission via rear-naked choke.
Losing to Rodriguez downgraded Masvidal’s professional MMA record to 6 wins and 2 losses. It was the seventh HOOKnSHOOT bout of the fighter from Miami.
Jorge Masvidal
The first athlete to beat Masvidal in a professional MMA bout was Raphael Assuncao of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. On April 21, 2005, the former lost to the latter via unanimous decision at “Full Throttle 1” in Duluth, Georgia, USA.
Born and raised in Miami, Masvidal attended St. Brendan High School in Westchester, Miami-Dade County. While in high school, he competed in wrestling but he failed to stay eligible because of his grades.
On May 24, 2003, Masvidal made his professional MMA debut. The first six opponents he defeated were Brandon Bledsoe, Brian Geraghty, Rolando Delgado, Julian Ortega, Justin Wisniewski and Joe Lauzon.
Masvidal is 5’11” tall. He turned 40 on November 14, 2024.
Rodriguez is 5’8″ tall. He turned 49 on May 18, 2024.
