Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar of Houston, Texas, United States has died. He was 42.

Born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, Jabbar spent 10 years in the U.S. Army where he worked as a human resources specialist and an information technology specialist. He lived in Fort Richardson, a U.S. Army installation adjacent to Anchorage, Alaska, USA.

Aside from Beaumont and Houston, Jabbar also lived in other parts of Texas including Cypress, Fresno and Lissie. He lived in different parts of Georgia, USA including Clarkson, Marietta and Thomson.

Jabbar was married to Nakedra Charrlle Jabbar. Their divorce was finalized in 2013. From 2015 to 2017, he attended Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems.

From 2019 to 2023, Shamsud-Din had a real estate license. He promoted his real estate business in a YouTube video posted in 2020 and deleted shortly after his death.

Shamsud-Din was also married to Shaneen Chantil Jabbar. They lived in Fresno before their divorce was finalized in August 2022.

In August 2023, Rodrigo Diaz bought a Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck from Mac Haik Ford Pasadena in Pasadena, Texas for $70,303. It is an electric vehicle.

On December 30, 2024, Shamsud-Din rented the truck through the carsharing app Turo. At around 3:15 a.m. on January 1, 2025, he intentionally rammed the truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing 10 people and injuring at least 35 others.

Weapons and potential improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were located in the truck. According to New Orleans Police Department chief Anne Kirkpatrick, Shamsud-Din tried to run as many people as he possibly could.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Shamsud-Din did not act alone. The agency classified the attack as terrorism and has yet to identify other suspects.

After getting out of the truck wielding an assault rifle, Shamsud-Din opened fire on police officers, who returned fire. He was fatally shot and at least two officers were wounded.
