Justin Wisniewski of Pinckneyville, Illinois, United States was 27 years old when he fought Jorge J. Masvidal Jr. of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA at the HOOKnSHOOT event “Absolute Fighting Championships 8” on May 1, 2004. The latter was 19.

Based in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA, HOOKnSHOOT held “AFC 8” at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida. There were 11 mixed martial arts matches on the card.

The seventh match was a lightweight bout between Masvidal and Wisniewski. Marco Lopez served as the referee.

After three 5-minute rounds, Lopez raised the of Masvidal, who was declared the winner via majority decision. It was the fifth professional MMA win of the fighter from Miami.

Losing to Masvidal downgraded Wisniewski’s professional MMA record to 13 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw. The fighter from Pinckneyville made his professional MMA debut on May 9, 1998.

Masvidal was born in Miami to Jorge Masvidal Fernandez Sr., 48, and Maria Carmen Masvidal, 42. Jorge Sr. is Cuban while Maria is Peruvian.

In 1971, Jorge Sr. immigrated from Cuba to the U.S. In 1989, he was arrested for drug trafficking.

When Jorge Sr. was imprisoned, Maria had to send Jorge Jr. to live with her parents in Peru. Jorge Jr. was told his father was in the U.S. Army.

In 1997, Jorge Jr. found out the truth about Jorge Sr. being in prison. Since then, the former started regularly visiting the latter in jail.

On November 12, 2024, Jorge Jr. turned 40. On January 21, 2025, Wisniewski turned 48.
