Palesa Jacqueline “Jacqui” Mofokeng of Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa was 21 years old when she was crowned Miss South Africa 1993 at the Sun City Superbowl in Sun City, Moses Kotane, North West, South Africa on August 7, 1993. She competed against 11 other finalists including Corinne Durrheim and Marelize Steyn, who were the respective first and second princesses.
On November 27, 1993, Mofokeng represented South Africa at Miss World 1993 at the Sun City Entertainment Center in Sun City. She competed against 80 other candidates including Jamaica’s Lisa Hanna, who won the title.
Runner-up to Hanna was Mofokeng. Ruffa Gutierrez of the Philippines was second runner-up.
Ten months later, Mofokeng went back to the Sun City Superbowl to crown Basetsana Makgalemele as the next Miss South Africa. Makgalemele became runner-up to Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai of India.
