Orlando is globally recognized as a premier destination for entertainment, tourism, and regional economic growth. Incorporated in 1875, the city originally developed around cattle ranching and citrus production before undergoing a massive transformation with the opening of major theme parks in the late 20th century. Today, the metropolitan area is home to over 2.6 million residents.

Orlando’s economy is heavily anchored by its hospitality and leisure industry. Hosting over 70 million domestic and international visitors annually, the region features iconic resort destinations including Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. This steady influx of tourism makes the city one of the most visited destinations in the United States, driving tens of billions of dollars in direct annual visitor spending.

Beyond tourism, Orlando has expanded into a major hub for healthcare, aviation, technology, and higher education. It houses the University of Central Florida, one of the largest universities by enrollment in the nation, as well as the Lake Nona Medical City research cluster. Combined with a booming population and a bustling international airport, Orlando continues to evolve into a diverse and rapidly growing metropolitan center.
