Chiriqui
Tucked away in the western corner of Panama, the province of Chiriquí is a breathtaking landscape of dramatic contrasts, earning it the poetic nickname “The Valley of the Moon.” Bounded by Costa Rica and the Pacific Ocean, this dynamic region effortlessly transitions from sun-drenched coastlines to mist-shrouded cloud forests.
At the heart of the lowlands lies David, the province’s bustling, warm capital and a hub of modern commerce. However, the region’s true magic unveils itself as you ascend into the highlands. Here, the imposing Volcán Barú—Panama’s highest peak—dominates the skyline. Nestled on its slopes is the charming town of Boquete, a paradise for hikers, birdwatchers seeking the elusive resplendent quetzal, and coffee connoisseurs. The fertile volcanic soil produces some of the world’s most coveted specialty coffees, including the prized Geisha variety.
Down at sea level, the mood shifts to absolute tranquility. The Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park protects an archipelago of dozens of uninhabited islands, vibrant coral reefs, and calm waters teeming with marine life, including migrating humpback whales. Offering everything from world-class surf to pristine alpine trails, Chiriquí stands as Panama’s ultimate playground for nature lovers and adventurers alike.
