Veraguas enjoys a distinction unmatched by any other province in Panama: it is the only one to border both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This unique geography allows the province to slice directly through the center-west of the country, transitioning from rugged highland cloud forests to sun-drenched coastal lowlands.

The interior is anchored by the bustling provincial capital, Santiago de Veraguas, a vital economic crossroads operating along the Inter-American Highway. Beyond this urban hub, the province shifts into spectacular natural extremes. To the north, the misty peaks of Santa Fe National Park shield pristine rivers and hundreds of endemic orchid species. To the south, the terrain descends toward the Pacific coast, culminating in the world-class surf breaks of Santa Catalina.

Veraguas’ ecological crown jewel sits further out at sea. Coiba National Park, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage site and a former penal colony, preserves one of the largest coral reef systems on the eastern Pacific coast of the Americas, sheltering whale sharks and sea turtles. Seamlessly connecting rural traditions, mountain wilderness, and marine sanctuaries across two coastlines, Veraguas functions as a complete microcosm of Panama’s diverse natural spirit.
