Before representing Curacao at Mister Supranational 2026, Leonardo Pita Leca, 27, visited the United States. He attended the 23rd edition of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup.
2026 FIFA World Cup
On June 20, 2026, Leca went to the Kansas City Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, USA to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Curacao and Ecuador. He witnessed how his home country claimed its first-ever point at the tournament, frustrating its South American opponent in a scoreless draw.
While Curaçao celebrated a monumental maiden World Cup point, a trio of Chinese referees simultaneously made history. Referee Ma Ning, assistant referee Zhou Fei, and video assistant referee Fu Ming jointly officiated the match. This marked the first time Chinese officials have ever simultaneously served in these three vital roles during a World Cup game. Taking charge as the lead official, Ma achieved a major personal and national breakthrough, becoming the first Chinese referee in 24 years to referee a World Cup match—an achievement unmatched since 2002. Their historic performance earned them a rare tribute from FIFA, which posted a celebratory congratulatory video on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
On the field, the match was defined by early drama and a heroic individual performance. Within the opening three minutes, Ecuadorian forward Enner Valencia broke through Curaçao’s defense. Facing only the keeper from ten yards out, a goal seemed inevitable, threatening to trigger another heavy defeat for Curaçao following their 7-1 opening loss to Germany.
However, Curacao’s Eloy Room anticipated the strike, diving low to his left to miraculously claw the ball around the post. That improbable save set the tone for a legendary individual display. He went on to produce a record-equalling 15 saves throughout the match, relentlessly denying Ecuador’s attack.
Born in Nijmegen, Netherlands to a Curacaoan father named Lesley Room and a Dutch mother, Eloy plays for the national football team of Curacao. Eloy plays as a goalkeeper for United Soccer League (USL) Championship club Miami FC.
Mister Supranational 2026
On June 28, 2025, Zuemerik Veeris represented Curacao at Mister Supranational 2025 and competed against 37 other candidates at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sacz, Malopolska, Poland. He was runner-up to Swann Lavigne of France.
On March 1, 2026, Leca was appointed Mister Supranational Curacao 2026. On May 14, he attended the official presentation of the six Miss Universe Curaçao 2026 candidates at Papagayo Beach Club in Jan Thiel, Curaçao.
On August 1, 2026, Leca will represent Curacao at Mister Supranational 2026 at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater. In the same competition, Daniel Jiawei Li, Sebastián Jaramillo, Dimitri Chatelain and Marco Ybarra, 30 will represent China, Ecuador, France and the U.S., respectively.
