From Oneida to Nashua

While Phillips was born in Oneida, he grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA. He was succeeded as the Chicago Bears president and CEO by Kevin Fulbright Warren, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

Oneida and Nashua are two East Coast cities shaped by distinct industrial histories and deep community roots. While differing in size and geography, both municipalities reflect the evolving economic and cultural landscapes of the American Northeast.

Named after the Indigenous Oneida Nation (Onyota’a:ka), Oneida gained national fame in the 19th century as the home of the utopian Oneida Community. Founded in 1848, the commune reorganized in late 1880 into a joint-stock enterprise that grew into Oneida Limited, a world-famous flatware manufacturer. Today, landmarks like the Oneida Community Mansion House preserve this unique heritage.

By contrast, Nashua is New Hampshire’s second-largest city, located in Hillsborough County near the Massachusetts border. Home to over 91,000 residents, the city grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution around textile mills along the Nashua and Merrimack Rivers. Over the late 20th century, the city successfully transitioned into a high-tech and commercial hub, twice earning Money magazine’s title of Best Place to Live in America.
