From Aklan to the world
Steeped in centuries of rich pre-colonial culture, Aklan has long outgrown its borders to leave an indelible mark on the global stage. Centered around a vibrant cultural heritage and breathtaking natural wonders, this province proves that local treasures can easily become international icons.
Globally, Aklan is most famous for Boracay Island, a tiny slice of paradise renowned worldwide for its powdery white sand and spectacular sunsets. It consistently ranks among the world’s best beaches, drawing millions of international travelers annually.
But Aklan’s global footprint extends far beyond tourism. Every January, the vibrant rhythms of the Ati-Atihan Festival echo across oceans, inspiring similar cultural showcases worldwide and earning its title as the Mother of All Philippine Festivals.
The province also exports world-class craftsmanship. It is the premier producer of piña cloth—a luxurious, intricately woven fabric made from pineapple fibers. Inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, piña wear has graced international fashion runways and global leaders alike.
From the shores of Boracay to the global recognition of its weavers and artisans, Aklan continues to bridge local passion with worldwide admiration, proving its spirit truly belongs to the world.
