A major late adjustment has reshaped the headline bout for ECO SHINRAI SERVICE Co., Ltd. PRESENTS K-1 DONTAKU 2026, scheduled for July 20, 2026, at Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall B in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan.
Lukas Achterberg
The K-1 executive committee confirmed that the scheduled K-1 WORLD GP Cruiserweight Championship clash between defending champion Thian “Tarzan” de Vries and challenger Lukas Achterberg has been officially cancelled. The latter was forced to withdraw after suffering an acute lumbar disc herniation.
According to K-1 producer Genki Sudo, Achterberg’s condition currently requires family assistance for mobility, leaving no immediate timetable for his ring return.
“We sincerely apologize to all the fans who were looking forward to this championship bout,” Sudo stated. “We had positioned this fight as one of the defining matches of the cruiserweight division this year, making this outcome especially disappointing.”
Thian de Vries vs K-Jee
Following Achterberg’s withdrawal, Nakajima Keisuke, a former K-1 WORLD GP Cruiserweight Champion known as K-Jee (SHINE SPORTS CLUB), accepted a short-notice offer to face de Vries in a non-title cruiserweight contest.
K-Jee holds a storied history with K-1 events in Fukuoka. At the organization’s inaugural Fukuoka show in 2020, he captured the K-1 Cruiserweight Championship by knocking out Sina Karimian. K-Jee added another highlight to his résumé in Fukuoka in 2024, scoring a head-kick knockout over kickboxing icon Jérôme Le Banner.
“K-Jee is one of the fighters who helped build K-1’s history in Fukuoka,” Producer Sudo explained regarding the decision. “That’s why, in this difficult situation, we wanted to entrust this main event to him once again. He knows this city, he knows this stage, and he has repeatedly produced unforgettable upsets on the biggest occasions.”
Despite the sudden opponent shift, de Vries expressed complete readiness for the non-title matchup.
“It doesn’t matter who my opponent is. I’ll fight anyone,” Thian declared.
For K-Jee, the short-notice main event slot presents a major homecoming opportunity.
“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. There was no way I was going to turn it down,” K-Jee said.
While K-1 extended its wishes for Achterberg’s full recovery and future return, the stage is now set for de Vries and local hero K-Jee to headline the upcoming card in Fukuoka.
