Born in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, Morgan Griffiths is proving that blue-collar roots and authentic storytelling are a winning formula in Canadian country music. The singer-songwriter recently secured three major Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Award nominations, marking a defining milestone in his whirlwind rise from local tradesman to national breakout star.

Griffiths grew up in a household steeped in East Coast musical traditions. Though he was born and raised in British Columbia, his family hails from Newfoundland, creating an environment where his father played accordion, his mother played fiddle, and his siblings picked up guitar and drums.

At age 10, Griffiths began playing guitar, but his path to full-time music was far from direct. Before pursuing country music as a career, he worked installing kitchen cabinets and selling semi-truck parts and powder-coated metal. That grounded perspective laid the foundation for his songwriting.

In 2024, Griffiths released his initial independent tracks, “Never Leaves” and “I Think I Still Love You”. However, it was his 2025 debut radio single, “Bourbon,” that catalyzed his rise. “Bourbon” climbed the charts to peak at number four on the Billboard Canada Country chart and cracked the all-genre Canadian Hot 100. Follow-up releases like “Southern Withdrawal” and his hit “Just Being Me”—which reached number five on the country charts—helped Griffiths surpass two million career streams.

The regional industry quickly took notice. In April 2026, Griffiths swept three B.C. Country Music Association (BCCMA) Awards, winning Songwriter of the Year, Song of the Year for “Bourbon,” and the Fans’ Choice Award.

Now, Griffiths’ momentum has reached the national level. As a first-time CCMA nominee, he earned nods for Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year, Single of the Year (for “Bourbon”), and Fans’ Choice. Public voting for the Breakthrough Artist and Fans’ Choice categories is currently open online at ccma.org/fanvoting.

Adding to the high-stakes autumn, Griffiths is also one of three national finalists in the SiriusXM Top of the Country competition alongside Shawnee Kish and the Blue Ridge Band. The trio will perform during Country Music Week in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada from September 16 -19, 2026. The grand prize winner will receive $25,000.

The CCMA Award winners will be announced on September 19, 2026 at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, capping off a banner year for one of British Columbia’s brightest young country talents.
