Gabriel Kai Hostin, 24, attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States from August 2021 to May 2025. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with focus in wellness and business from the university.

Hostin’s mother Asunción “Sunny” Cummings Hostin, 57, was born and raised in The Bronx, New York City, New York, USA. She has been a co-host of the ABC show “The View” since 2016.

Created by Barbara Walters in 1997, “The View” is one of the most-viewed news and talk programs in daytime television. It remains one of the most influential political and cultural touchstones on American television. Broadcast live from New York City, the program features a panel of women from diverse backgrounds, generations, and political ideologies discussing the day’s most pressing hot topics, ranging from breaking news and politics to entertainment and pop culture.

Throughout its multi-decade run, the show has become essential viewing for voters and politicians alike, frequently serving as a key campaign stop for presidential candidates, world leaders, and high-profile celebrities. Its current lineup—which features moderator Whoopi Goldberg alongside co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny—continues to generate national headlines with its passionate, unfiltered debates and contrasting viewpoints.

Currently, Gabriel is facing a legal infraction after being cited for trespassing on active railroad tracks in New York. According to official court documents, the incident occurred on June 16, 2026, when he was stopped by police on a Metro-North Railroad right-of-way in New Rochelle, New York.

While the encounter did not result in a physical arrest, Gabriel was issued a criminal summons for trespassing on the active train tracks. His mother, a former federal prosecutor and experienced attorney, was on the phone with him when police initially approached him.

During the interaction, Gabriel reportedly informed officers of his mother’s legal background. She allegedly mentioned her role on “The View” while speaking with law enforcement.

Sunny is officially stepping in to act as Gabriel’s defense attorney. As part of her legal strategy, she submitted a formal letter to the District Attorney requesting that the citation be entirely dismissed ahead of a scheduled court date.

In the letter, Sunny defended her son’s actions, characterizing the incident as an “honest mistake.” She explained that he was simply using the area for athletic training.

According to the defense letter, Gabriel noticed a gravel incline ideal for hill training and walked through a gate that was left standing wide open. Sunny emphasized that there was no visible “no trespassing” sign on the gate, leading her son to believe the path was open to the public.

Arguing that Gabriel has an exemplary personal record, no prior history with the criminal justice system, and poses absolutely no risk to the community, Sunny asserted that a dismissal would prevent unnecessary long-term consequences for her son. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 31, 2026.
