A compelling proxy war between two of modern mixed martial arts’ most prominent camps is set to unfold in Bulgaria.

BRAVE Combat Federation has confirmed a 68-kilogram catchweight showdown between unbeaten MMA fighter Delyan Georgiev of Varna, Bulgaria and Indian finisher Owais Yaqoob for “BRAVE CF 107“. The event takes place on August 1, 2026 at the Arena Burgas in Burgas, Bulgaria.

Beyond its implications for the promotion’s featherweight and lightweight divisions, the fight serves as a direct clash between the training circles of Ultimate Fighting Championship champions Ilia “El Matador” Topuria and the camp established by Khabib Nurmagomedov.

A two-time IMMAF World Champion, Georgiev has compiled an undefeated professional record since turning pro in 2021. The Bulgarian operates out of the Climent Club, where he has long served as one of Topuria’s main training and sparring partners.

“Training with Ilia has completely changed my outlook as a fighter,” Georgiev stated. “Every session forces me to raise my level because I am surrounded by champions. That environment has prepared me for the biggest opportunities of my career.”

“I will do my best for Bulgaria, for Ilia, and for all of my training partners who have invested in my growth,” he added.

Standing across from Georgiev is Yaqoob (5-1), one of the fastest-rising figures under the BRAVE CF banner. The Indian combatant earned first-round stoppage victories in both of his recent outings, finishing Ian Paul Lora at “BRAVE CF 98” before stopping Mehmet Can Tasdoven via ground-and-pound at “BRAVE CF 103”.

Following a successful tryout in late 2025, Yaqoob was formally invited to join Team Khabib, drawing praise from Nurmagomedov himself for his discipline and punctuality.

“Joining Team Khabib is one of the proudest moments of my career,” Yaqoob said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from people who have already reached the top of this sport… When you become part of Team Khabib, you represent something much bigger than yourself.”

The pairing comes amid heightened public discourse between the Topuria and Nurmagomedov camps, fueled by ongoing speculation around a potential super-fight between Topuria and UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev.

While both Georgiev and Yaqoob remain focused on their personal trajectories within BRAVE CF, their encounter adds a high-profile stylistic and promotional dynamic to the Burgas card.

Blending modern arenas with a rich maritime environment, Burgas continues to solidify its reputation as one of Southeastern Europe’s most exciting and versatile sports destinations. While long celebrated for its sun-kissed beaches and vibrant seaside culture, the city has rapidly established itself as a dynamic destination for elite international athletics.

At the center of this athletic resurgence is the Arena Burgas, a state-of-the-art indoor venue that regularly attracts major global competitions. Burgas has become a favored European stop for high-profile martial arts organizations, including BRAVE CF, bringing elite international combat sports and top-tier athletes to the local stage.

Beyond combat sports, Burgas thrives on a diverse aquatic and team sports tradition. Its coastal location fuels a strong sailing, windsurfing, and swimming culture, while local football clubs like Neftochimic and Chernomorets hold a storied place in Bulgarian sports history. Additionally, the city’s expansive Sea Garden provides miles of scenic routes for marathon runners and cycling enthusiasts.
