Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Casey Affleck is returning to the director’s chair with “Company”, a gothic mystery that has officially secured a spot in the main competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The festival, which takes place on the Lido from September 2 to September 12, 2026, will serve as the world premiere for Affleck’s third feature film as a director.

Co-written by Affleck alongside author Ron Hansen, “Company” is structured as a multi-layered, atmospheric narrative that unfolds across distinct timelines. The film’s overarching plot begins on a chilly winter night in 1975 when an uninvited guest named Evelyn arrives at a holiday gathering. She recounts a haunting tale from 1953 about Tom, an aging hermit who rescues a stranded actress during a fierce Colorado blizzard. To pass the night in isolation, the actress shares a third story concerning a farming couple who shelter a troubled young drifter while a wave of brutal murders spreads fear across the frontier. Through these nested tales, the film delves into themes of grief, vengeance, forgiveness, and generational trauma.
The project features a standout ensemble cast led by veteran actor Nick Nolte, alongside Adelaide Clemens, Ben Mendelsohn, Scoot McNairy, Emily Alyn Lind, Caylee Cowan, and Sydney Chandler. The production also features appearances by Affleck’s sons, Indiana Affleck and Atticus Affleck.
“Company” marks Casey’s first directorial effort since his 2019 post-apocalyptic drama “Light of My Life”, and follows his 2010 mockumentary “I’m Still Here”. The film is a co-production involving Image Nation Studios, Spooky Pictures, and Artists Equity.
At Venice, “Company” will contend for the prestigious Golden Lion alongside a formidable lineup of international cinema, including Danny Boyle’s “Ink”, Werner Herzog’s “Bucking Fastard”, Florian Zeller’s “Bunker”, and Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine”.
