A family tragedy unfolded in Ashburn, Loudoun County, Virginia, United States when Mia Tonae Maxie Bieniemy, 57, was seriously injured in a shooting at her family’s residence. She is the wife of Eric Bieniemy Jr., 56, a longtime National Football League coach.
On August 15, 2025, Eric turned 56 and on October 28, 2025, Mia turned 57. They have two sons together namely Eric Bieniemy III, 31, and Elijah Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call placed from a residence on Northpark Drive at approximately 7:32 p.m on July 26, 2026. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an adult woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was later listed in stable condition.
Authorities quickly identified Elijah as the suspect. He was taken into custody and booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. Online court records and police statements confirm that he faces three felony charges: malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling.
Elijah is currently being held without bond, with a preliminary court appearance scheduled. Investigators noted that while other individuals were inside the residence at the time of the violent incident, no one else sustained injuries, and officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the general public.
Eric Bieniemy Jr.
As an NFL player, Eric Jr. played for the San Diego Chargers from 1991 to 1994, the Cincinnati Bengals from 1995 to 1998 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. From 2013 to 2017, he was a Kansas City Chiefs running backs coach.
From 2018 to 2022, Eric Jr. was a Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator. On January 23, 2026, he returned to the team with the same role.
At the time of Mia’s shooting, Eric Jr. was hundreds of miles away in St. Joseph, Missouri, USA participating in training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs. He immediately left the team facility to travel to Virginia and be by his wife’s side.
The Kansas City Chiefs released a brief statement requesting privacy for the coach and his family during an unimaginably difficult time. During a press briefing, the team’s head coach Andy Reid expressed deep sorrow over the situation, offering thoughts and prayers while praising Mia as a wonderful person and a pillar for the family.
