TAG Heuer has once again joined forces with Bamford Watch Department and Team Ikuzawa to create a striking limited-edition timepiece: the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa. Following their previous successful collaboration, this new release pivots to a more compact platform, utilizing TAG Heuer’s modern 39mm “Glassbox” Carrera architecture. By leveraging the edge-to-edge sapphire crystal and bezel-free construction, the design team has maximized dial legibility, echoing the clean, functional aesthetic of vintage racing equipment.
TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa
The inspiration for the watch stems directly from a vintage Heuer Roadmaster stopwatch discovered by George Bamford and Mai Ikuzawa—creative director of Team Ikuzawa and daughter of legendary Japanese racing driver Tetsu Ikuzawa. Reflecting the stark, high-contrast visual identity of 1970s and 1980s Japanese motorsport, the watch features a white Clous de Paris textured dial accented by crisp black typography and sparing, purposeful flashes of signal red. Notably, the running seconds subdial has been omitted, clearing negative space at the six o’clock position to prominently showcase the iconic Team Ikuzawa signature.
Underneath the vintage-inspired exterior lies modern Swiss horology. The watch is powered by TAG Heuer’s in-house automatic Calibre TH20-10, an integrated column-wheel chronograph movement boasting an impressive 80-hour power reserve. The attention to detail extends to the hardware: the fluted crown features a distinct circlet of red lacquer, matching the central chronograph hand and subdial details. True to its collector-focused ethos, the timepiece ships with a versatile package including a classic seven-row steel bracelet, a perforated white leather strap with contrasting red stitching, and an alternative white-and-red textile strap.
The collaboration bridges two rich automotive heritages—Jack Heuer’s original 1963 chronograph design philosophy and the pioneering spirit of Japanese racing culture. Rather than relying on a superficial logo swap, the partnership yields a deeply thoughtful instrument that honors archival timing tools while pushing contemporary design forward. Limited to just 150 pieces, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa successfully captures the romance of analogue motorsport, making it an instant object of desire for watch purists and racing enthusiasts alike.
