Naim Amadu Smith, 19, was arrested by the police department of Atlanta, Georgia, United States following a fatal shooting at a downtown Atlanta apartment complex. The incident occurred around at 3:00 p.m. on August 4, 2026 at The Flats on Maple Street apartments in the Vine City neighborhood of the city near Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

According to official incident reports from the Atlanta Police Department, Zone 1 officers arriving at the scene located three adult male victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside an apartment unit. Responding medical personnel pronounced one of the men deceased at the scene. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased victim as Demazio S. Skelton Jr. of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA.

First responders transported two surviving victims by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta where both were listed as alert, conscious, and in stable condition. While officers were processing the scene, authorities were notified that a fourth wounded man had arrived separately at the hospital via a private vehicle. The surviving victims were identified as being 19, 36, and 37 years old.

Following an investigation utilizing Flock license plate recognition technology, homicide detectives identified and arrested Smith in connection with the crime. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on charges including murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and three counts of armed robbery.

While the department’s Gang Unit was brought in to assist homicide detectives in evaluating potential gang affiliations or underlying conflicts, police noted the shooting appeared to be a targeted incident with no ongoing threat to the surrounding community. Smith remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail as the investigation continues.

On December 17, 2024, Demazio Jr. turned 34. He was 6’1″ tall.

A standout athlete, Demazio Jr. was a former defensive back for North Myrtle Beach High School before playing college football at Georgia State University in 2012. Georgia State Athletics released a statement honoring him as an exceptional student-athlete and top defensive player, extending condolences to his family, friends, and former teammates.
