From Ghana to India

Somuah is a fashion model and a stylist who founded Admiire Model Academy, which offers modeling and pageantry classes. From 2022 to 2025, she attended the University of Professional Studies, Accra in Madina, Ghana where she earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations management.

On October 10, 2026, Tiglao will crown her successor in India. Representing Ghana, Somuah will compete against more than 70 other Miss Grand International 2026 candidates including Lakshita Thilagaraj, 23, of India and Patthama Jitsawat, 33, of Thailand.

The partnership between Ghana and India is rooted in strong historical ties, shared democratic values, and robust South-South cooperation. Formal diplomatic relations date back to 1957, forged by the close personal friendship between Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, and India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Today, economic ties form the bedrock of their modern alliance. Bilateral trade exceeds $3 billion annually, with India serving as a major destination for Ghanaian exports like unwrought gold, crude oil, and cashews. In return, India supplies Ghana with essential pharmaceuticals, transport vehicles, and agricultural machinery. Furthermore, Indian companies have committed billions of dollars in foreign direct investment across hundreds of industrial and developmental projects in Ghana.

Beyond trade, development cooperation remains central to the relationship. Through concessional lines of credit, capacity-building programs, and technology transfers—such as Digital Public Infrastructure initiatives—India continues to support Ghana’s infrastructure, healthcare, and educational sectors. As both Commonwealth nations look toward sustainable growth, the Ghana-India partnership stands as a vital axis of global cooperation.
