From the Netherlands to Thailand
The partnership between the Netherlands and Thailand represents one of the longest continuous relationships between Europe and Asia, with diplomatic and commercial ties dating back to 1604. What began over four centuries ago with the Dutch East India Company establishing trading posts in Ayutthaya has transformed into a modern, multifaceted alliance.
Economic ties between the two nations remain exceptionally strong. The Netherlands consistently ranks as the largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the European Union into Thailand.Trade flows heavily in high-tech sectors, with Thailand exporting electronics, computer components, and agricultural goods, while importing Dutch industrial machinery, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
Beyond commercial trade, technical cooperation forms the core of their alliance.Capitalizing on Dutch expertise in water management and flood control, Thailand collaborates closely with the Netherlands on coastal defense, sustainable urban drainage, and climate adaptation strategies.Furthermore, joint initiatives in precision agriculture and green technology ensure that this historic friendship remains a dynamic engine for sustainable economic growth in both regions.
