The Newtown High School of the Performing Arts boasts a notable alumni network, including actors Bryn Chapman Parish, Catherine Laga’aia, Claude Scott-Mitchell, Ed Oxenbould, Odessa Young, Samuel Thomson and Sophie Wilde are alumni of the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. In 2018, Alcock dropped out of the school after being cast in the drama series “Upright”.

Raised in Petersham, Alcock is the youngest of three children. In 2022, she moved to London, the birthplace of actors Daniel Day-Lewis, Emilia Clarke, Helena Bonham Carter, Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.

Clarke played Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones” from 2011 to 2019. Alcock played the young version of the character’s ancestor Rhaenyra Targaryen in the show’s prequel “House of the Dragon” between 2022 and 2024.

Petersham contrasts sharply with the sprawling, multifaceted metropolis of London. Both areas share a rich architectural legacy defined by Edwardian and Victorian influences but their scales differ immensely.

While Petersham maintains a “village” atmosphere, London functions as a global powerhouse, where centuries of history coexist with overwhelming scale and density. In Petersham, historic homes often face local urban pressures, whereas in London, the challenge lies in preserving heritage amidst the relentless, high-speed expansion of a truly global capital.

Located in the Inner West region of New South Wales, the suburb of Petersham is widely recognized for its vibrant Portuguese commercial hub. Despite the fact that born-in-Portugal residents make up just 1.9% (156 people) of the local population, the area boasts a high concentration of Portuguese restaurants and shops.

Born in Petersham, Australian pilot Keith Bruce Chisholm was known for his exploits with the Polish and French resistance after being shot down over France in October 1941. He turned 72 on December 22, 1990 and died in New York City on August 23, 1991.
